When people ask what you do, you say, "I am a teacher, salesman, cheap soccer cleats adidas, mom, dad" etc. But that answers "do". What about WHO you are? What is your purpose? (I don't mean the Steve Martin, "The Jerk" purpose!!) It depends upon your age. When you were 1, your purpose was to eat, poop, throw food and cause havoc. When you were 15 and 3/4, it was to make it to 16, why, to get your license, why, to drive and do whatever you wanted, or so you thought. At 21, well, you remember what the purpose was, or do you? Then there was finding a mate, getting a "real" job, having children, buying a home, becoming an adult. But in all that working toward the next thing, many of us lost "our purpose". We are so busy doing, that we don't stop to think about being, what feeds your purpose, your soul.

When we are not living a life based on purpose, it shows. When your life is out of sink, it shows in the level of happiness and health, or the lack thereof. Because life is cyclical, our purposes change. Generally, there a few in each category of self, work, and family. So many times we get so wrapped up in our work and family we forget about self. We get the words stuck in our head, I HAVE to "go to work", I HAVE to take Susie to piano, I HAVE to take Joey to soccer, I HAVE to take Kyle to football, I HAVE to take Karen to softball, I HAVE to get to the store, I HAVE to, I HAVE to. We are so in HAVE to that we don't GET to. We don't GET to live.

When we live a purposeful life, we "get" to go to work, we get to spend time watching our children, we get to enjoy our daily duties. They are gifts, not chores. So many of us have to work 51 weeks a year just to get 1 week of vacation. We set our sites on destinations, but life is a journey. The destination is death--I DON'T WANT TO REACH MY DESTINATION!!! We are here to help one another. That is our purpose. We are connected to each other, like it or not. So many companies have left the original purpose for their creation. It has become about self. How do I know this: soccer cleats for cheap, Insurance, Chevy, Ford-me, me, me, mine, mine, mine. We are so focused on holding onto what is ours and "protecting" our own, the original vision is lost.

What happens when we lose our purpose? We start self-medicating our pain. We self-medicate with food, drugs, gambling, alcohol, anything that takes the focus off our pain and fear. We allow that fear to paralyze us from moving forward. We stop living and being. This is evidenced by the medical field and pharmaceutical companies raking in billions a year, from us! We have pills for fear, anxiety, depression, obesity, adult onset diabetes, high blood pressure, arteriosclerosis, high cholesterol, bariatric surgery, sleeplessness, the list goes on. We get in with doctors to fix the problem so we can go on existing in our lives that is without purpose until something happens. Sometimes that is a stroke, a heart attack or death. We have all heard and agree wit ht he statement, "a mind is a terrible thing to waste." What about a life? We do, do, do, instead of BE, BE, BE.

How do we begin to break the curse of fear and doing and begin living and being? How do we discover our true purpose? If it is buried, how can we begin to bring it to the surface so we can find it? If our driving force is fear and we are not happy with ourselves, how can we begin to be happy with others. We have to love ourselves and be happy from within before giving to others. So let's begin.

Life is about being what you were built to do. discount soccer cleats called it self-actualization. He stated, "Even if all the needs are satisfied, we may still often expect that a new discontent and restlessness will soon develop unless the individual is doing what he is fitted for. A musician must make music, an artist must paint and a poet must write if he is to be ultimately at peace with h
